Phillip Johnson, SPASA Victoria member from Phillip Johnson Landscapes, has designed the garden awarded Best In Show at the prestigious 2013 Chelsea Flower Show in London.
The 'Trailfinders Australian Garden' exhibit, which features a stone gorge, running waterfalls and a billabong, took a team of 18 volunteers 17 days to build, equivalent to 2,500 man hours.
Espousing Johnson's ideals of sustainability and water conservation, the $2 million display was inspired by family holidays in the Grampians in western Victoria.
"It's just the beauty of the Australian outback," said Johnson.
While the design is entertaining, it also carries a serious message of sustainability, collecting and filtrating rain water from all hard surfaces and run off from neighbouring sites.
Solar panels at the rear of the garden ensure the whole site is powered "off the grid".
This is the first Australian display to win Best In Show and was also recognised with a gold medal at the Royal Horticultural Society event.
